You may be saying to yourself "That's not a 908, that's a 936." Technically you are correct. But this car was entered in the 1980 24 hours of Le Mans as a rebodied 908. Porsche had decided to not enter any Group 6 cars so as not to compete against many of thier customer 935 Group 5 cars and Porsche didn't want to sell the 936 to customers, so they hid the fact that they sold one by rebadging it the 908/80. It was later revealed that it was infact built from chassis 936/04, thus a full-blown 936.

It looked like the team of Reinhold Jöst and Jacky Ickx would cruise to victory, building up a 2 lap lead late in the race. However gearbox issues dropped them to 2nd place to Jean Rondeau and J. P. Jaussaud in Rondeau's own Rondeau chassis powered by Cosworth. Rondeau became the only person to win Le Mans in a car of his own make/name.
