Lotus was known for it's many revolutionary race car designs. One of the first major design innovations was the monocoque chassis the replaced the standard tube-frame design. The Lotus 25 was the first car using this new technology and it paid off handsomely: Jim Clark scored three wins in 1962, seven wins in 1963 (and won the World Championship), three more wins in 1964 and three more wins in 1965 before the car was replaced mid season (and Clark scored his second World Championship).
