During the 1970's Porsche threw down the gauntlet that they were the make to beat at LeMans, scoring victories in 1970, 71, 76, 77 and 79 and again in 1981. But that was just the warmup - new Group C rules in 1982 lead to the introduction of the ground-effects 956. With only limited involvement in 79 and 80 in anticipation of the new rules, Porsche was back in force in 1982 with the factory Rothmans team finishing first, second and third (in numerical order no less!), also finishing 4th and 5th with a class top-two sweep in IMSA GTX for the venerable 935. Porsche would win again in 83, followed by customer wins in 84 and 85, and return wins in 86 and 87 for the factory with the 962; a stunning seven straight victories for Porsche!
