Defending Sebring Champions Dick Barbour Racing came back to Sebring with a three car effort, after mechanical issues took out both cars at Daytona earlier in the year. The number 6 car - piloted by Rick Barbour, Rolf Stommelen, and Rick Mears(!) - was the designated 'hare' - qualifying on pole they set the pace early in the race, but a brake pedal issue resulted in lengthy repairs. In the end the number 9 driven by Bob Akin, Rob McFarlin and Roy Woods won by over a lap, giving Barbour Racing it's second consecutive Sebring 12 hours win.
