The 1988 Formula One Season was dominated by the McLaren Honda team of Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna. Heading into the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, McLaren Honda had won every race of the season. This would be the first Italian Grand Prix since the passing of Enzo Ferrari the previous month and emotions were high amongst the Tifossi, but it would take a miracle for Ferrari to win.

... but miracles sometimes happen. And it happened at Monza in 1988. Alain Prost dropped out with mechanical failure (the first mechanical failure of the year). That left Senna to cruise toward what shoud be an easy win, but on the penultimate lap he collided with a backmarker. Ferrari took the lead and Gerhard Berger and Michele Alboreto finished first and second for Ferrari in one of the most emotional F1 victories ever.

It was the only race that McLaren Honda lost that year.
