For the 1968 season, Forumla One finally allowed cars to sport primary sponsorhip and matching liveries. Team Lotus was the first to take advantage of this, changing their traditional green and yellow paint scheme to red, white and gold. The team ran the first race at South Africa with their traditional livery - a race won by Jim Clark in what would be his last F1 race before his untimely death at Hockenhiem in April. It was up to Graham Hill to hold the team together in light of the tragedy, and he did, going on to win the World Championship. Mario Andretti made his F1 debut at Watkins Glen, putting the Gold Leaf car on pole.
