Porsche followed up thier maiden LeMans victory in 1970 with a repeat performance at the hands of Dr. Helmut Marko and Gijs van Lennep. Although long-tail versions of the 917 were entered, it was this short-tailed version with an new magnesium chassis that was the class of the field setting a distance record of 5,335.313 km (3,315.210 mi) - a record, that due to course changes and additions of chicanes, would not be broken until 2010! This was also the first LeMans 24 hour race to do a rolling "Indianapolis" style start, abandoning the traditional driver sprint to their vehicles.

Fujimi did a nice job with their 1/24 scale kit of this car but they got some of the colors wrong and omitted the Martini-Racing-Team logos that go on the engine. As with all our decals, these are available in multiple scales.
