Porsche has long been a dominant force in the history of the 24 Hours of LeMans, but that dominance had to start somehere, and that somewhere is here, in 1970 with the 917K. A rain soaked race saw Porsche take thier first outright win, the overall top three and first place in all three competition classes. Richard Atwood and Hans Hermann took the win for the Porsche factory team while the Martini entered #9 917K - the green and purple 'hippie car', finished 2nd. 42 year old winner Hans Hermann promised his wife that he'd retire if we won LeMans (nearly accomplishing the feat in 1969) and he wasted no time honoring his promise to his wife.

Fujimi did a nice job with their 1/24 scale kit of this car but the deals includes white stripes that run the full length of the car, and then includes white number roundels that go on top of them. The only problem with this is that the white stripes will show through the roundels. Our decals either incorporates the roundels or cuts the stripe to fit around the roundels for a better overall finish.
